Solve multiplication problems using doubling and halving
Can your students judge which number to double and which number to halve when using this strategy to solve multiplication problems? Two tasks in this unit requires students to rewrite a sum using doubling and halving to make it easier to solve. For example, if the given sum is 18 x 5, students need to understand that 9 x 10 will give them the same answer. Other tasks require students to match up sums with their equivalent 'easier' sum, as well as using this strategy to solve word problems.
